How to Modify Your Citynet Dial-Up Account for 10-Digit Dialing
Beginning February 28, 2009, all West Virginia telephone customers must dial ten-digits (Area Code + 7 digit phone number) when making ALL local calls. The change paves the way for an additional area code (681) for the state of West Virginia to accommodate the growth of telephone lines and services. This includes now using “304” with your dial-up number in order to properly establish a dial-up connection to the Internet. In order to assist you with this transition, we have included instructions below for adding “304” to your existing dial-up number using the most common operating systems in use today.
Instructions for those using any version of Microsoft Windows who also have a Citynet icon displayed on their desktop:
• Double-click your Citynet icon. This should bring up your dial-up box. At this point you may want to write your dial-up number down.
• Within your dial box you will see the dial-up number.
• Simply click in the box at the beginning of your dial-up number and type 304 before your number. If your number disappears, just continue typing your dial-up number that you wrote down before.
If you do not have a Citynet Icon you may use the following instructions for the various Microsoft operating systems to add 304 to your dial-up number.
For Windows XP/Vista users:
• Click the “Start” button
• Click “Control Panel”
• You should see several rows of icons. If you have two rows of icons side-by-side, look on the left-hand side of your Control Panel. In the blue sidebar, locate and click on the words “Control Panel Classic”. This will change the way your Control Panel looks.
• Now locate your “Internet Options” icon and click on it. Click on the “Connections” tab at the top of this window. You will see a box with your dial-up connection in it. Next to this box you will see a “Settings” button.
• Click on the “Settings” button. Near the bottom of the next window, you will see your username, and beside it you will see a “Properties” button. Click the “Properties” button.
• Now you will have a new box that shows your dial-up number. At this point you may want to write down your dial-up number.
• Click within the box that has your dial up number, and then simply type 304 at the beginning of the existing numbers. If your number disappears, continue typing the dial-up number you had previously written down. Once you have 304 before your dial-up number, click the “OK” button at the bottom of the window. This will save it.
• On the “Connection Settings” window, simply click “OK” again and this will bring you back to your “Internet Properties” window. Click “OK” once again.
• You now may close your control panel and dial up as normal.
For Windows 95/98/ME/2000 Users:
• Click “Start”
• Click “Settings”
• Click “Control Panel”
• Click “Internet Options.” Now you will need to click on the “Connections” tab
• Beside the box that has your Citynet connection, you will see a “Settings” button. Click “Settings”
• At the bottom of the window you will see your username. Click the “Properties” button beside your username. You should now see your dial-up number. At this point you may want to write down that number.
• You can click within the box that has your dial-up number. Simply type 304 at the beginning of the existing numbers. If your number disappears, continue typing the dial-up number you had previously written down.
• Once you have 304 before your dial-up number, simply click the “OK” button at the bottom of the window and this will save it.
• On the “Connection Settings” window, simply click “OK” again. This will bring you back to your “Internet Properties” window.
• Click “OK” once again. You now may close your control panel and dial up as normal.
